LET'S GET STARTED

Business of Photo Styling is an Intensive, "No Filler/No Fluff" Course.

The Business of Photo Styling is an intensive, "all things covered" Course, but it's not just that, it's a community of learning and sharing together. I know there are Photo Stylists out there with concerns, questions and seeking education. (and fair and respectful treatment of their work) I know because I have talked with and guided a lot of stylists in my Career.

As much as I have searched to see where all types/niches of Photo Stylist's "hang out" online, ask questions or share thoughts about being a Photo Stylist . . . crickets!?  If only there was a place, a space . . . So, for the love of this great career of photo styling and a sincere desire to share, I created this Course.  It's my mission - it's my "movement"!

Along with the Course, we created a Site for the day-to-day situations and experiences of photo styling, a Styling Resource Library and a Forum to hear from photographers. (The people who hire you, or at the very least have an influence on who does get hired) What better way to find answers then to speak directly to your teammates and collaborators in your Photo Styling Career - the Photographers, Creative Directors and Art Directors.

LEARN THE STEPS

You will learn the entire business of Photo Styling step by step.  We will teach you how to price your services, negotiate your contracts, (Styling Contract Download is included in the Course) build your portfolio, build a impressive Styling Kit and get the styling assignments from the brands you love and along the way answer your questions like - Should I Freelance? Sign with an Agent? Or become a Studio Staff Stylist?

I stepped into my first photo studio as a model in the mid 80's from there I started my own Licensed Modeling Agency in Massachusetts in the early 90's. In 1995, I transitioned that Agency into a Photo Styling Agency and have been photo styling ever since.

I've been fortunate to style in many niches - wardrobe, food, prop and home. Throughout the years, I've had many experiences and I've learned a lot (and some hard lessons, which I will also share.) While we all have to learn our own lessons, sometimes it's kinda good to get a "heads up", right?   I will be sharing my experiences, industry knowledge, lessons learned, business strategies, technical aspects to styling, working and collaborating with creative teams and how the business works today.  So, do you want to know the steps?

YES, I WANT THE STEPS!

Whatever your Photo Styling niche is,  and there is a lot - Beauty, Fashion, Home, Products, Soft Goods/Soft Styling and Food, just to name a few, the business of Photo Styling is consistent - your portfolio, negotiation skills, getting (& staying!) booked, protecting yourself with a signed Contract/Agreement and getting paid!  Sometimes, it's just more fun to think about the actual styling, shopping, color palettes, storyboards, researching inspiration, but that doesn't happen without laying down the groundwork to your business first.

If you are new in the Industry, a Blogger interested in styling as a career or to add Photo Styling expertise to your Blog/Business, or you have been styling, but you're looking to perfect your skills, The Business of Photo Styling Course is for you.

GETTING PAID

We go "all in" with our Course content. We answer your questions and concerns without the "filler or fluff" and the Pricing Lesson is no exception. This is THE question I get asked all the time! Everyone wants to know "How much do you get paid?" or How much should I charge?" A lot of information "out there" is vague and has variables to consider, which makes it difficult to get a straight answer. We give you a straight answer. Are you unsure on how much to charge for your services? Are you asking yourself, what should my Day Rate be? Half Day Rate? Do I charge by the hour? What do I charge if the job goes overtime? If I'm asked to travel, how much should my Travel Stipend/Per diem be? If the client cancels, do I still get payed? So, we're going there . . . we're talking money, salaries & rates.
